		<description>As a caucasian woman raised in America, I was surprised to hear of this custom of filial piety. I&#039;d first heard of it several months after my marriage to a man of asian decent, as his parents expected him to begin monthly payments, and he felt he&#039;d be a bad son if he did not provide this. 
I think this is definately a difference in culture that should be discussed prior to marriage. It&#039;s certainly a difficult thing for me to understand. In my culture we believe in helping out extended family when in trouble, but not just providing money for them because it&#039;s filial. Especially when they, too, live in America where we have social security.</description>
