Warwick Business School in the UK offers their MBA in a 1 year accelerated full-time MBA, an Executive MBA and a distance learning version. According to the Financial Times (http://www.ft.com/businesseducation), their full-time programme is ranked 36th in the world and the Exec MBA 14th in the world. Whilst there is no ranking for distance learning programmes, it's the same curriculum, the same faculty and the same reputation! See http://www.warwickmba.com.

And yes, I'm biased - I work there.

My DH picked a decent school in your area for part-time MBA, because we couldn't afford to give up the salary. But the truth is he could easily have gotten into Harvard/MIT. He had a 3.8 gpa, 99% GMAT, and top references. He just wasn't ready to give up his salary having just finished a phd and only working 1 year. We gave up enough years of money for that already.

But I think you're in a different boat and different situation. I'd consider taking the best MBA school you can get. For DH it's not a huge deal he has a phd from a top ranked school so this is icing. But he does sometimes regret it, because if we had stayed in CA, he could have gone to USC or UCLA, which are much better programs. So he think Business school it does matter where you go.

I recently went through this same thought process. Wanted to go to Duke, if I could get in. But there is a local college that my wife attended (not a community college, a real school) that offers night classes for MBA. Decided to go for that, keep my job, etc.

Patrick - Thank you for your comment. I wrote a followup post to this one about Distance Learning (specifically the University of Phoenix). I would be interested to hear some other Universities that offer a distance learning program though, especially ones that offer the same degree as an offline one.

I'm also considdering getting my MBA, but it looks like my best option will be distance learning because my local universities will require me to take too many classes before I can start the program. I don't have a business undergrad degree, or a strong business foundation, which is what our local school requires. There are some better options out there than U. of Phoenix on-line, and most distance programs do not differentiate the method of schooling on their diplomas. I would look into some of them.
