Calculate Your Driving Cost For Any Trip
Personal Finance
I came across a nifty little website today called Cost to Drive. It calculates the cost of gas for your car trip so you can get an idea of how much you will spend in gas for the journey.
You simply input your starting point, destination, and your car year/model and it will do the calculation for you. It uses the distance of google maps, the average mpg of your car type, and the average price of gas in that area. Its obviously not 100% accurate, and also on some trips I tried it did not factor in tolls (perhaps an idea for a future enhancement) which can certainly add up as well. But overall its a fun and easy tool to get a rough estimate of gas costs.

This site doesn’t give the tolls. For the life of me I can’t find one site that gives the toll cost to drive from one location to another unless you know the exact roads websites (for example NJ Turnpike website then NY Thruway Site then look up individually the toll for Lincoln Tunnel) insted of one site that can give you the tolls if you just put where you are going from and to!! Its so annoying~!!!
The site is cool =D, but I’m not that sure if the site is that accurate, I’d better ask a friend about it. I’m not a driver and I only ride a public transportation to get where I will go or sometimes I was just hopping in with a friend or a relative.
Hi – Jim from Cost2Drive here. Thanks for the nice review of our site. We actually don’t use average gas prices, we pull the cheapest price of gas from specific gas stations near the origin and refueling points along the way. By clicking on the push pins in the map you can see the location of the station. We’re going to be adding some messaging to the site so its more clear to our users.
And we agree that tolls would be an interesting addition. It’s not a simple problem to solve but we’re definitely looking into it. Thanks again for the nice review, we’re glad you like our app!
