Why You Should Never Buy Your Printer Cable Instore

Deals and Steals
I often see people at Staples, Office Max, Best Buy, etc. buying a 6 foot USB printer cable for $30 with the printer they are purchasing there and can’t help but shake my head. You can get these cables shipped to your door for less than $2 each!
As of today:
- Firefold has them for $0.59 each plus about $1.21 shipping making them $1.80 (discounted shipping if you order more).
- PCMicrostore has them for $1.79 each with free shipping.
If you have a 99 Cent Store locally you can try there as well, you can sometimes find them for (you guessed it) 99 cents. Big Lots is also known to carry them on the cheap.
So don’t get suckered by the smooth talking sales guy, you don’t need to buy those overpriced accessories there.

Amen to buying at the 99 cent store. I setup networks and troubleshoot PCs on the side. When clients want to get a new printer I tell them to buy one with a USB port and that I will give them a deal on the cable. So they buy the printer and I sell them a brand new Belkin 6 foot USB 2.0 cable for $5, a quick 400% profit for me and the client still feels like they’re getting a great deal compared to the price they see in the store. I make sure to have 3 or 4 in stock so I’m not missing out on major profit.
Oh man, this brings back memories of an old job…lets just say, as an employee we got stuff at cost…cables, all cables, marked up at least a couple thousand percent. Crazy.
My college got gigabit when I was a sophomore and if you broke your cable, the bookstore only had 3 foot ones for FIFTY DOLLARS. Some guy had a nice little side business selling 30′ cables for ten dollars on the student message board, because they really weren’t that expensive online. Price of ignorance.
